Where to Surf In west Sumbawa ?

West Sumbawa is home to several internationally renowned surf breaks, some of surf breaks here are the best in Indonesia. The waves here are driven by the same Indian Ocean swells that hit Bali, but with far fewer crowds than Bali and a more remote feel.

There are Surf spots in west Sumbawa such as

Scar Reef

A long, fast, and hollow left-hander that breaks over sharp reef. It’s one of the most consistent waves in the area and ideal for experienced surfers. Located in jelenga Bay, good when dry season, start from April to October, and in the same bay there are so many other option to surf when scar reef getiing biggrer like little bingin or phantom, normaly they are smaller then scar reef, the main break.

Super Suck  

Famous for its intense, barreling sections, this wave is not for the faint-hearted. When it’s on, it delivers some of the heaviest tubes in Indonesia left hander, surf when mid tide to high tide, need big swell from SW direction to break, and 18-22 second long periode of wave, it will more power with long period of wave.

Supersuck surf Point

Playground

It’s located in the same bay in supersuck wave, playground it’s for intermediate surfer friendly wave, and normally it,s smaller than supersuck, it can not be surfed when low tide, te best tide is mid tide and good in dry season April to october

Yo-Yo’s the hook

Yoyos surf Spot

A more forgiving right-hander, offering long rides and multiple sections, making it suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers. Working in wet season the bay is swell magnet so it will becoming huge it can be surfed with all tide but safer when mid tide to high tide

Yoyo’s the wedge

Same like yoyos the hook, it is located in the same bay, less surfer than the hook, since you should paddle a bit far than the hook, right hander, mellow friendly wave in the small day, but become scary wave when the swell hit the bay

Tropical

Left hender friendly wave perfet for intermediate surfer practicing the turn and pump for speed, it’s surfed for all tide, but better when mid tide, best time for surfing this wave when wet season since the bay face to east and the wind from west will be ok with this surf point

Kertasari

The name of the fisherman village and home to so many surf point, such as, dirty hipies, northen right, mashroom,  etc, it perfects for  beginner to intermediate surfer, since it’s located a bit to the north of the island good time fro surfing is dry season, April to october

Where to stay in West Sumbawa

Accommodation ranges from simple surf camps to eco-lodges, often located right in front of the breaks. Like in sekongkang village, kertasari or jelenga. Life here is slower, quieter, and deeply connected to nature. There are some option to stay in west Sumbawa, Sekongkang Vilage is the closest one to some break like Yoyos and tropical, in sekongkang village there are some homestay like santai bungalow, lisa garden, yoyos homestay, etc in dry season when the swell geting bigger and come from SW swell if you are intermediate surfer you can stay in Jelenga village or Kertasari, there are so many surf spot in that village, some of them still secret surf spot

How to get west Sumbawa

Getting to West Sumbawa isn’t as straightforward as hopping into a taxi. Some travelers drive with the car or bike to get West Sumbawa from Bali, it will take at least 12 hours, it combines with the ferries, first ferry is bali to lombok and second ferry lombok to Sumbawa. The effort required naturally filters out mass tourism, preserving the area’s wild and authentic charm.
